Digital India Campaign nine (9) pillar
Digital India Campaign nine (9) pillar

Above image shows nine pillars of Digital India targeted by our government. These areas are explained as below:

  1. Broadband highway is an area under which broadband connectivity in rural as well as urban areas will be provided. For rural areas, 250,000 villages under panchayat are covered under National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) project. Urban areas would be developed in communication infrastructure and delivery services by Virtual Network operators. In different government departments NII (National information infrastructure) will integrate the high speed connectivity and cloud platform by combining all networks. These networks include National Knowledge Network (NKN), State Wide Area Network (SWAN), National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN), Government User Network (GUN) and the MeghRaj Cloud.

  2. Public Internet Access Programme: Under this area, One Common Service Center (CSS) would be made for each gram panchayat. So CSC would be increased to approximately 250, 000. Further many of post offices will be converted into multi-service centers.

  3. Information to Everyone: IT will create a two way communication between citizens and government to inform and interact with the citizens. This will be done by an open data platform, social media and online messaging. As a result, people will get available information easily.

  4. Early Harvest Programme: There are some programs which would be implemented under short timeline. These projects are Wi-Fi in all universities, E-books as a substitute of hard copy books, IT platform for message by a mass messaging app for all government employees, Public Wi-Fi hotspots, Biometric attendance in government buildings and many more.

  5. Universal Access to Phones: According to this plan mobile coverage to uncovered villages will be provided. Total cost around 16000 Cr will be spent on it from 2014 to 2018.

  6. IT for Jobs: Under this, small town people will be provided with IT training. Setting up BPO, telecom training to rural area people and many more.

  7. E-Kranti: This programme was envisaged by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) with the mission of optimum usage of core information and communication technology and aim in data preservation and security.

  8. E-Governance: Main focus and mission is to provide government services available to its citizens in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner.

Many rural areas face the problem of less electronics network. Thus providing digital infrastructure in rural areas has been regarded as the top most priority of Digital India Campaign.

Conclusion:

Meanwhile as a concluding part I need to address following issue which can serve as a hindrance to turn country into progressive one

  • Stop prosecuting citizens who express legitimate opinions through online debates post and discussion.

  • Legitimate opinion in the public interest should not be removed.

  • Lift restrictions on access to and functionality of cyber café.

Overall it opened door for the department of electronics and Information technology. With proper support and cooperation from both public and government, India can really be transformed into smart country. Providing high speed mobile connectivity, coverage of villages with Wi-Fi connectivity, digital learning, strengthening knowledge, e-banking and many other activities will lead to transform and empower India as one of the growing economy of world.
